Growing up in the small town of Kingman, Arizona, Kim learned to create fun in a desert city with little to offer beyond rocks and cactus gardens. Her parents, both talented artists, encouraged her imagination to have no limits. The backyard became a vast land with castles, oceans, and hidden treasures. Kim’s sketch pad was always kept handy to document her findings and map out the worlds and people discovered.
Kim’s little sketch pad evidenced her love for drawing and soon the doodles became elaborate projects: by age 15 she had illustrated two books, built an astronaut robot for the Phoenix Children’s Museum and designed a pin for the state of Arizona. By high school her numerous commissions solidified her desire to use art as a way of communicating to and affecting the world around her.
That desire led her to Biola University’s Fine Arts program where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art in 2006. She went on to Minor in Biblical Studies with Biola’s Torrey Honors Institute. Both aspects of her education sharpened her conviction and talents, stretching and motivating her as a person and artist.
After Biola, Kim went on to spend the next few years teaching at two art schools, teaching art classes out of her home studio, as well as illustrating books and continuing to create custom art for her clients. “I desire all of my artistic endeavors to be more than something pleasing to look at. Making art gives me the chance to offer my gift and interact with others, helping them find the joy that art can bring.”
